Ergonomics and Industrial Design - PhD

About the course

The PhD program in the scientific specialty "Ergonomics and industrial design" at cat. "Engineering design", includes individual training and experimental work on current scientific and scientific-applied topics in the field of form-building, plasticity and ergonomics, surface and color specificity as elements of emotional impact in the design of: household products, applied graphics, design of clothing and accessories, the means of production, packaging design, as a synthesis of industrial design and applied graphics, as well as the design of static /individual and public, exhibition and production environment/, as well as the design in the dynamic living environment / interior and exterior of public and individual transport means/.

The object of research is both the social consumer address, which is decisive for the semantic logic of the preferred technological specifics, as well as their relationship with marketing and market aspects in prospective chances of the products intended for the world market. Important factors in the production concept are the ecology, as well as copyright-legal issues related to the registration and legal protection of intellectual and industrial property.

The presence of modern high and ecologically sustainable technologies for the production and obtaining of quality and reliable engineering production is also observed.

An important trend is the increasingly intensive individualization of circulation industrial design and its gradual transformation into individual design. Contemporary approaches are also applied in combining classic manual craft methods and techniques in the design of products and systems from cutting-edge light and strong materials, through modern digitally based design, testing and manufacturing methods.

The training covers the full cycle from assessment of the technical requirements to the design, to the selection of suitable materials and production methods for the implementation of specific structural and technological tasks.

The results of the scientific research activity are widely accepted in authoritative specialized publications, are reflected in prestigious international forums, expositions and exhibitions.

The training enriches and builds the knowledge and practical skills needed for an innovative approach to solving complex problems - both from science and business practice. It can be noted that the related industry in the country has overcome the crisis of recent years and is developing more and more dynamically. Accordingly, the demand for highly qualified personnel is increasing rapidly. Dissertation topics are formulated on real problems dictated by the needs of practice.

PhD students are encouraged to direct their research activities in promising directions that would also favor their own realization after the successful completion of this higher degree of their academic training at the Technical University - Sofia.

Reviews of the scientific and practical contribution of the dissertations were received not only from Bulgarian institutes and industrial enterprises, but also from leading scientific organizations and companies abroad.
