Research and Development Laboratory "Complex Automation of Discrete Production Engineering"

About the Lab

Complex Automation of Discrete Production Engineering Research and Development Laboratory (CADP RDL) is a laboratory at the Automation of Discrete Production Engineering Department of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TU-Sofia. It was established in the year 1974 and is one of the first laboratories set up at TU-Sofia. The laboratory has long experience in the development and implementation of technical means for automation of discrete production processes in various areas: mechanical engineering, electronics and construction of electrical equipment, textiles and food industry and others.  Numerous products of the research work of members of the department and the laboratory have been adopted by industry – automation devices and systems, automatic complexes, robotized technological modules; automatic assembly machines and others.

Activities

A considerable number of the products of the research work of the CADP RDL have been developed by the research and development laboratory of Low Cost Automation of Discrete Production. The laboratory specializes in the construction of technical means for automation characterized by optimal values of the “investment – end economic result” ratio. With these means the period of return on investment is less than a year, which reduces new investment risk to a minimum. Alongside the practical tasks commissioned by industry the laboratory works on theoretical issues – it is working on the scientific basis of a methodology for design and selection of an optimal variant of technical means for automation of discrete production, for size range optimization, etc.

Projects and Partners

As a result of its fruitful cooperation with a number of leading companies, both international and Bulgarian - SMC, Trade Meister, КМS Engineering, SYS TEC electronic – Germany, the laboratory has state-of-the-art laboratory stands for testing technical means of automation donated by the companies it has worked with. The laboratory maintains partnerships and cooperation with a number of foreign and Bulgarian scientific and educational institutions as well as with companies working in the field of automation of discrete production.
