About the course

The doctoral program in "Methods for inspection and testing of materials, products and equipment" is aimed at acquiring fundamental and applied knowledge in the field. A special emphasis in the doctoral program is devoted to upgrading the knowledge obtained in the Master's degree. The doctoral program creates conditions to acquire specific and above all theoretical-practical skills. The knowledge to be acquired is grouped into four areas: fundamental; special; language skills; methods of scientific knowledge. The latter include the methods of critical analysis, the abilities to develop, synthesize and apply scientific and research ideas and innovations, to solve complex scientific problems, to expand the boundaries and/or supplement knowledge in the relevant scientific field and its interactions with border scientific fields.

In addition to specific knowledge, emphasis is also placed on acquiring skills such as: use of specialized literature (including in a foreign language); systematization, summarization and analysis of existing data; independent conduct of scientific and applied research; shaping and presenting the results comprehensibly, logically, precisely and correctly.

Dissertation topics in the department are formulated on real problems dictated by the needs of the industry. Doctoral students are encouraged to direct their research activities in promising directions that would also favor their own realization after the successful completion of this higher degree of their academic training at the Technical University - Sofia. The results of scientific research are widely accepted in authoritative specialized publications and are reflected in prestigious international forums.

The requirements for the training of specialists with the educational and scientific degree "Doctor" in the doctoral program "Methods for inspection and testing of materials, products and equipment" are:

  • have excellent training and specific knowledge in the field of methods for destructive and non-destructive testing of materials;
  • have training in the field of CAD modeling technologies, and LabVIEW and MATLAB software products;
  • have excellent training in the field of materials science, materials technology and solid state physics;
  • have knowledge of modern measuring techniques;
  • in-depth and creative knowledge and use of literature in the specific field in which the topic of the dissertation is formulated;
  • manifestation of creative thinking;
  • acquisition of a high level of skills, knowledge and qualification for theoretical and/or experimental research work.
